FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SYCAMORES ARE BLANKED
BY THE CRUSADERS 3-0
VALPARAISO, Ind. -- The women’s soccer team
was shut out for only the second time this season, falling to the
Valparaiso Crusaders 3-0 on Sunday. The Sycamores now stand at 1-3
on the season after two loses on the road this weekend.
The Crusaders were led by senior Emily King who scored on goal
and assisted on Valpo’s other scores. The home team from Valparaiso,
Ind. would begin the scoring in the eleventh minute off the foot
of Brittany Derksen from five yards out. The second goal would come
less than two minutes later, this time by King heading in a goal
from the far post.
The Sycamores didn’t have the attack that they had shown
against Wisc.-Green Bay earlier in the week. Valpo held the advantage
of shots in the first half 10-5 and ultimately 18-7.
The Crusaders would add a cushion goal at 54:04 when Lorna Torrez
found the back of the net off the pass from King. Despite the three
goal deficit, ISU goalkeeper Rachel Rudzis recorded five saves on
the day.
“If we are going to be a successful team,” head coach
Vernon Croft said, “we need to get some wins on the road.
We just didn’t seem to play with a lot of passion today or
any emotion.”
The women will now return to Terre Haute after the two game road
swing and have a two game home stand this weekend. The Sycamores
will face Butler on Friday and in-state foe IUPUI on Sunday.
