Sycamores' Season Ends With 1-0 Loss At Illinois State

Box Score

Normal, Ill. – Indiana State and Illinois State battled through 80 minutes without a goal in Sunday's MVC Tournament matchup, but the Redbirds netted the game-winner with just under seven minutes remaining to end the Sycamores season. ISU finishes the year with a 7-9-2 record, while Illinois State advances to the MVC semifinals with a 9-6-3 record.

The Redbirds held a 19-8 advantage for shots, but Rachel Rudzis kept the Sycamores in the game with 11 saves, including nine in the first period. Illinois State finally broke the stalemate at the 83:20 mark when a shot by Bethany Russ was blocked by Rudzis but ended up right on the foot of Heather Forsyth. Forsyth took the rebound from just feet from the goal and put it into the back of the net for the game winner. It was her seventh score of the season for the Redbirds.

Freshman Amanda Gogel led ISU with four shots, including three shots on goal, while Beth Wagenhoffer added two shots.

The Redbirds used the home field advantage after the Sycamores handed Illinois State a 3-2 overtime defeat just a week earlier in Terre Haute.

It is the third straight season ISU has finished with at least seven victories and the second straight season they have played in the MVC tournament.
