SYCAMORES TOP DEPAUW,
2-1
GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Indiana State women’s
soccer team closed its exhibition slate with a 2-1 victory over
DePauw University on Sunday (August 21). The win evens the Trees
mark (1-1) in exhibition play.
The Sycamores first goal came from junior Beth
Wagonhoffer, while Lauren Podolski tallied the second mark for ISU
off a feed from Amanda Gogel. Head coach Vernon Croft was pleased
with the effort in the win after suffering a defeat to Memphis University
on Saturday (August 20).
“With every game you hope to get better,”
noted Croft. “Yesterday (against Memphis) we were working
to figure out where certain players would fit in the lineup. Today
we were able to get a win against a nationally ranked Division III
program.”
Croft used all three of his goalkeepers in net during the scrimmage.
Starting goalkeeper Rachel Rudzis played the bulk
of the match, tallying 55 minutes. Brittany Caraboa played 20 minutes
in goal, while Lenea Harless saw 15 minutes of action between the
pipes.
“We have a young team and it was good to
get some game-action before we start the season against Ball State
next week,” said Croft. “It’s been a long camp,
and the players are excited to start the season.”
ISU opens the regular on Friday (August 26) when
the Sycamores host Ball State University at 4:00 p.m. After nine
non-conference matches, the Sycamores begin the Missouri Valley
Conference schedule on September 30 against Missouri State.
