FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SYCAMORES
SUFFER FIRST BLEMISH OF CONFERENCE SEASON
Box Score
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State women’s
soccer dropped its first conference game of the season in a 1-2
decision going in the favor of the host Evansville Purple Aces late
Friday night. The loss drops the Sycamores to 7-6-0 (2-1-0) and
improves Evansville to 6-6-0 and 2-1-0 in conference.
The Aces built a quick lead with two strikes within the first eight
minutes of the game. EU’s Danielle Brand bent a ball to the
far post 29 seconds into the game for her first goal of the year.
Seven minutes later, Heidi Grey would add the game winner as her
ball from 12 feet fell just over the head of ISU keeper Rachel Rudzis
for the second goal of the game.
Indiana State would continue to fight and score its first goal
of the half in the 42nd minute on a Katlin Owens’ header on
a free kick from Callie McDonough. The 2-1 score would carry over
into the half.
Neither team would find the net in the second half with each side
firing six shots. In all, the Sycamores and Aces combined for 24
shots with the 14 to 10 advantage going in Evansville’s favor.
“This game was a perfect example of one team coming out prepared
and ready to play,” women’s soccer head coach Vernon
Croft said. “There isn’t a team in the country that
can give up two goals that early and come back.”
The Sycamores will look to get back on the winning track when Indiana
State concludes the weekend road trip with a date with the Redbirds
of Illinois State on Sunday at Noon in Normal, Illinois.
