SYCAMORES FALL TO THE HOOSIERS IN 6-3 LOSS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In Tuesday’s game against the Hoosiers of Indiana, the Sycamores looked to claim a victory over an in-state rival while taking a break from the grueling Missouri Valley Conference season. Previous to this game the Sycamores had seen eight straight MVC conference games.

The Hoosiers ended up taking the 6-3 victory in a game that came down to the wire with IU capitalizing on a 6th inning rally to claim the victory.

The Sycamores record now stands at (15-19, 1-10 MVC) while the Hoosiers climb to (19-19, 1-5 Big Ten).

The Sycamores got on the board early in the top of the 1st as Senior Jackie Chomicki led the game off with a single to left center field and was brought home two batters later by Sophomore Meredith Simpson who sent a single through the middle of the infield. This made the game 1-0 going into the bottom of the innings.

The Hoosiers got off to a hot start of their own as they scored two runs in the bottom half of the first courtesy of a two-run homerun by Junior Tory Yamaguchi off of Sycamore Junior Darcy Wood.

Neither team would score again until the 6th inning.

In the top of the 6th the Sycamores moved into the lead as Sophomore Katie Armour sent a two-run single into left field, bringing home Senior Stephanie Spychaj and Simpson. This made the score 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 6th.

The Hoosiers would rally to bring four runs home in the bottom of the 6th with the back breaker coming off the bat of Sophomore shortstop Emily Bergeson who doubled to left center bringing three runs around. She also later scored.

With their four late-inning runs the Hoosiers were able to capture the 6-3 victory over the Sycamores.

Meredith Simpson went 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI and Stephanie Spychaj went 2 for 2 with one run.

Darcy Wood went 6.0 innings allowing six runs (one of those unearned) on eight hits in the loss. Sophomore Monica Wright of the Hoosiers, a transfer from UNI, went 7.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits while earning the victory.

The Sycamores are in action again on Wednesday, April 11 as they motor to Indianapolis to face the Butler Bulldogs for a pair of non-conference games. The games are set to begin at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. respectively.
