SYCAMORES TO HOST CREIGHTON FOR WEEKEND SERIES

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Sycamores (15-19, 1-10 MVC) are set to host the Bluejays of Creighton (27-9, 9-2 MVC) for a weekend softball series at Price Field on the Indiana State campus. The games are scheduled for 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 and at 12:00 noon on Sunday, April 15.

The Bluejays have won 19 of their last 24 games, but have dropped two straight entering this weekend. Creighton is much improved over last year’s losing record, having already topped last season’s win total. The Bluejays are averaging 5.3 runs per game this year, having already hit a combined total of 40 homeruns this season.

The Jays rank second in the MVC in average (.304), homeruns (40) and runs scored (189). Creighton’s 1.73 ERA also is second in the Valley, while its 13 shutouts are tops in the league.

Creighton is led offensively by Senior Jamie Reiss who leads the team with a career-best .413 average, 3rd in the MVC, and her four triples lead the Valley. Junior TJ Eadus tops the team with 10 homeruns while Sophomore Bailey Dawson leads the team with seven doubles and 32 RBI’s.

Freshman pitcher Tara Oltman (17-4) leads the MVC with a 1.07 ERA, and started this week ranked 8th in the NCAA in ERA, tops among all Freshman in the nation. Junior Amanada Hess (9-4, 2.21 ERA, 116 K) leads the MVC with an average of 9.5 strikeouts per seven innings of work.

The Sycamores continue to be led by the Junior first-team all-MVC pitcher Darcy Wood (8-15, 2.22 ERA), who ranks second in the MVC in innings pitched (161) and strikeouts (182). Freshman Meagan McCurdy (7-3) continues to be a solid backup with her 1.42 ERA in 64 innings pitched.

Sophomore Meredith Simpson has paced the Sycamore offense with a .352 average and 25 runs scored. Sophomore Katie Armour leads the team with 20 RBI’s and Junior Katie Iocoangeli leads the team with three homeruns to go along with her 19 RBI’s.
