SYCAMORES TAKE SERIES FINALE AT BRADLEY

PEORIA, Ill. This game would feature a rematch of the pitchers in the first game of the weekend Indiana State’s Darcy Wood and Bradley’s Ashley Birdsong. In game one the pitchers combined to give up only one run on seven hits with Birdsong earning the victory.

Wood (11-21) and the Sycamores got their revenge in game three with a 3-1 victory over the Braves in the final game of the weekend series. Wood went a complete game, 7.0 innings, only surrendering one run on five hits while striking out eight batters.

The scoring got underway in the top of the third inning as the Sycamores rallied a pair of runs home on three hits in the inning. The first two hits came from the first two batters of the inning, Christina Meyers and Jackie Chomicki. The runners advanced to second and third base after Lauren Kebely laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her team mates along. One batter later Meyers and Chomicki were brought home with a single to left field from Meredith Simpson. The score after three innings would be 2-0.

The scoring wouldn’t continue until the 7th inning.

The Sycamores struck first in the 7th inning with a RBI single from Jessica McGivney as she brought home Meredith Simpson from 2nd base. The Braves got on the board with a one-run homerun by Freshman Janay Mitchell. Neither team would score again and the game would end with a 3-1 margin for the Sycamores.

Chomicki went 3 for 4 with one run scored and Simpson went 3 for 4 with one run scored and two RBI to raise her team leading batting average to .367.

With the win the Sycamores are now (20-25, 5-15 MVC) and with the loss the Braves are (24-19, 7-13 MVC)

The Sycamores are in action again next weekend for their regular season ending series against MVC opponent Drake in Des Moines, Iowa. A twinbill is scheduled for Saturday, May 5 with the first game of the day starting at 1:00 p.m. (ct) and a single game is scheduled for Sunday, May 6, starting at 1:00 p.m. (ct).
