SYCAMORES TRAVEL TO DRAKE FOR REGULAR SEASON FINALE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Sycamores (20-25, 5-15 MVC) and Bulldogs (15-35, 5-16 MVC) go into the final weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play locked in a battle for the 8th and final MVC tournament spot.

The Sycamores went (1-2) last weekend in their three game series with Bradley, winning game three by a score of 3-1. Senior Jackie Chomicki and Sophomore Meredith Simpson turned in solid performances in the winning effort. Chomicki went 3 for 4 with a run scored and Simpson went 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored. For the weekend Indiana State was led by Senior Stephanie Spychaj who went 7 for 14 at the plate (.500) with one homerun and three RBI to her credit.

The Bulldogs went (2-1) a weekend ago with wins over Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri.

The Bulldogs are keyed offensively by Senior Jenna Wilkin who is currently batting .345 with one homerun and 20 RBI for the season from her outfield position. She is aided by Junior Kristin Birocci; the outfielder/pitcher is batting .317 with 3 homeruns and 12 RBI this season.

From the mound the Bulldogs have two pitchers that share starting duties in Senior Cassie Heller and Freshman Mandy Osborn. Heller (8-19) owns an ERA of 4.87 and has struck out 98 batters in 158.0 innings of work. Osborn (7-14) has an ERA of 3.43 and has struck out 53 batters in 125.2 innings pitched.

The series will begin with a twinbill on Saturday, May 5 starting at 1:00 p.m. (ct) at Buel Field in Des Moines, Iowa. The series will wrap up on Sunday, May 6 with a single game starting at 1:00 p.m. (ct).
