THREE SYCAMORES NAMED TO THE MVC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE TEAMS
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – It was announced on
Tuesday, May 15 that three Sycamores were named to the Missouri
Valley Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete first or second teams.
To be eligible for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team athletes must hold
a GPA of at least 3.00, be of sophomore standing or greater, and
have competed in at least 75% of the games played by their team
that season.
Named to the first team, for her third consecutive season, was
Senior Jackie Chomicki (Overland, Kan. / Blue Valley Northwest).
Sophomore Meredith Simpson (Mission Viejo, Calif. / Capo Valley)
also received first team honors in her first year of eligibility
for the award.
Making the second team was Junior Katie Iocoangeli (Terre Haute,
Ind. / St. Mary of the Woods).

Jackie is a two-time First Team member of the Missouri Valley Conference
Scholar Athlete Team in 2005 and 2006. In 2006, she was named ESPN
the Magazine Academic All-District First Team. Jackie has also been
selected as the Verizon Sycamore All-Academic Team representative
for Softball in 2005 and 2006. In 2007, Jackie has been named to
the Sycamore All-Academic Team to represent her sport at this year’s
banquet with the highest cumulative GPA on the Softball Team. She
has started 192 games for the Sycamores from her outfield position
and was named the 2006 Wolfe Sycamore Classic Tournament MVP. She
totaled a career best 4 hits in a single game on 3/5/06 against
Western Illinois. This season Jackie is hitting a career best .295
to go along with her consistent defensive efforts in center field.

As a freshman Meredith Simpson led the Sycamores in hits (48) and
stolen bases (10-13) while starting 46 games. This season as a sophomore
she took her game to new heights as she is currently 6th in the
Missouri Valley Conference in Batting Average (.367) which is tops
on the Sycamores. She also has 54 total hits which rank her 7th
in the MVC in that category. Her three homeruns is also good for
a tie for the team lead in that category. Simpson has provided steady
play in the field as well, playing the majority of the time at shortstop.

The transfer from St. Mary of the Woods is in her first year of
competition with the Sycamores and has been a mainstay in the Sycamore
lineup. The junior from Terre Haute, Ind. has made 38 starts on
the season, splitting time between 1st and 2nd base. She currently
is tied for the Sycamore with 3 homeruns and is also tied for the
lead in RBI with 20. Iocoangeli’s six doubles also places
her second on the team in that category.
