Indoor Track and Field set to begin on Saturday

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Indiana State indoor track and field will travel to Charleston, Illinois and compete against the Panthers of Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The EIU Early Bird Meet with be the first competition for the Sycamores this year.

The Sycamores finished last year’s indoor season with a second place finish in the conference for the men and a fifth place finish for the women.

On the men’s side, ISU returns 2005 MVC Indoor Co-MVP Jordan Fife who garnered the award after capturing the most points at the competition. Jason Carruthers also returns for the Sycamores after placing first in the weight throw at the MVC Indoor Championships, setting a new school record and NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the process. Other noteables returning for ISU include Jerry Clopton (MVC finalist in 60m and 200m), Drew Traub (2nd in shot put) and Jake Conn (5th pole vault).

The women return Yolanda Wright who placed second in the triple jump at the MVC Indoor Championships and Randi Stephens who finished fifth in the pole vault. Santia Spight finished second in the high jump, Laura Engle third in the mile, and Janae Bridges finished fourth in the long jump to round out those who finished in the top five.

Both the men and women came away with easy wins last year at the competition with the men posting a score of 96-61 and the women winning by a 94-60 margin. Individual winners who will look to defend their victories include Myra Bess (60m hurdles), Yolanda Wright (triple jump), Drew Traub (shot put), Jake Conn (pole vault) and Charlie Sparks (weight throw).

The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in the Lantz Fieldhouse.
