FIFE NAMED CONFERENCE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State senior Jordan Fife was named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (4/18) for his performance at the Pacesetter Invitational. It was Fife’s first award this year and fourth of his career.

Fife ran a season-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in his first-place finishing time of 9:01.89. The time crushed the Rose-Hulman Welch Track Complex record of 9:20.89 set in 2003. The senior also competed in the 800-meter run, finishing sixth during the Pacesetter Invitational host by Indiana State.

The award was the second received by the senior this week as he was also named the 2006 Indiana State Presidential Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Presidential Scholar-Athlete is the most prestigious award presented annually to a male and female student-athlete. The award recognizes their athletic accomplishments, academic achievements, qualities of leadership and service to the University community.

The men and women will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Illinois and take part in the Illinois Invitational on Saturday, April 22.
