TRACK AND FIELD TO
FACE ILLINOIS STATE
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The men and women’s
track team will travel to Normal, Illinois this weekend to face
the Redbirds of Illinois State. Both teams were victorious in 2005
when the men posted a convincing score of 87-55 while the women
also came out on top 77-69.
Individual winners from 2005 who are returning for ISU are junior
Myra Bess (60m hurdles), junior Laura Engle (mile) and senior Ebony
White (weight throw) for the women. Senior Shanel Johnson, junior
Santia Spight and sophomore Jillian Yorn also had strong showings
as they all tied for second-place in the high jump.
On the men’s side, Indiana State had several individual winners
including sophomore Jake Conn (pole vault), junior Paladin Jordan
(triple jump), senior Jerry Clopton (60m), senior Nigel Bigbee (60m
hurdles) and senior Vincent Mason (400m). The Sycamores dominated
in the 3000m with the top six runners all from Indiana State with
junior Jordan Fife leading the charge.
The meet with the Redbirds will be the second meet of the season
for Indiana State after an impressive showing at the Eastern Illinois
Early Bird Invitational in December. Both men and women claimed
victory in Charleston with a 146-136 spread for the men and 150-104
spread for the women. Following Illinois State, ISU will take to
the road again Jan. 21 when they travel to Bloomington, Indiana
for the IU Quad Meet.
