YOLANDA WRIGHT NAMED
TO ALL-DISTRICT SECOND TEAM
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State senior
Yolanda Wright was named ESPN The Magazine Second-Team Academic
All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA). Wright, who carries a 3.50 cumulative grade point average
in Chemistry, joined Southern Illinois’ Sarah Rinker on the
District 5 Second Team which is made up of colleges and universities
in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Wright was one of only four NCAA regional qualifiers for the Sycamores
after placing first in the triple jump at the MVC Outdoor Championships.
The senior went into the meet having collected the triple jump title
during the indoor season as well.
Her successes in the field events for Indiana State garnered six
All-MVC selections and MVC Field Athlete of the Week honors.
In the classroom, Wright has also been recognized as an MVC scholar
athlete, a four-time Verizon Scholar-Athlete, a two-time Arthur
Ashe Scholar and was recently named Presidential Scholar-Athlete
at ISU.
The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female
student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level
on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected
through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors
of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public
relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United
States and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or
key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on
a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings
at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports
information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952,
CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000
student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA
championship sports.
