SYCAMORES SWEEP REDBIRDS IN INDOOR TRACK

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State University track and field team participated in the Terre Haute Double Dual meet hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon and came away with a pair of victories. The Lady Sycamores raced past Illinois State 94-52 while the men had the same kind of advantage, defeating the Redbirds 98-48.

“We weren’t sure how good of shape we would be in after the Christmas break,” ISU men’s coach John McNichols said. “We have a good team with a lot of talent and they did a nice job today.”

Kylie Hutson, a freshman from Terre Haute North, became a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championships in March after winning the pole vault competition with a vault of  13-feet-0.25 inches. She attempted a vault of 13-6, which would have set a new Indiana State record but missed on all three attempts.

“I was a little nervous this morning but my legs felt fresh when I got here,” Hutson said. “The first few attempts were not very good but then I got into a rhythm and I felt like I could just keep going.”

Santia Spight won the high jump for the Lady Sycamores (5-feet-7.75), Janae Bridges the long jump (18-feet-7.25), Lauren Martin the triple jump (36-freet-4.25) and Angel Canada the weight throw (51-feet-2.75). Also winning for Indiana State were Erica Moore in the 400 meters (58.07), Laura Engle in the mile (5:11.06), Hanna Weide in the 800 meters (2:20.15), Dani Prince in the 3000 meters (9:57.76) and Myra Bess in the 60 meter hurdles (9.26).

On the men’s side, Jeramie Gray took first for Indiana State in the 60 meters (6.93), Carlton Hoyles first in the 60 meter hurdles (8.58), Antinoice Surry the 200 meters (22.76), Sean Wright the 400 meters (48.65), Sean Bowman the mile (4:18.32), and Kurt Heimann the 800 meters (1:55.55) and Jordan Fife the 3000 meter (8:37.18). In the field events, Brandon Youngdale won the high jump (6-feet-9.75), Jake Conn the pole vault (16-feet-0.75), Steve Daniel the triple jump (50-0.75) and Jeremy Gillingham won both the shot put (52-feet-2.50) and the weight throw (60-feet-1.75)

The Sycamores will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the Indiana Team Classic at Bloomington, Ind.
