DOWDEN NAME
TRACK ATHLETE OF WEEK
ST. LOUIS, Mo.
– Corey Dowden, a senior from Mt. Vernon, Ill., was named the
Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Dowden
led a trio of Indiana State athletes who finished in the top five of
the triple jump at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday, finishing in
third place with a leap of 50-feet-5½-inches.
ISU’s Steve
Daniel, a senior from Decatur, Ill., finished fourth in the event
with a leap of 50-feet-2¾, and Paladin Jordan, a senior from Des
Plaines, Ill., was fifth with a leap of 50-feet-0½.

as notables were:
Women’s Track –
Dani Prince, ISU freshman from Bloomington, Ind., won her heat and
finished 10th overall in the 3000 meters with a time of
9:54.67 at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday. The time is the best
in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and the fifth fastest
time in Indiana State school history.
Women’s Field –
Kylie Hutson, ISU freshman from Terre Haute, Ind., continued to
dominate the pole vault event, winning the Iowa State Classic on
Friday with a vault of 4.10 meters (13-feet-5½-inches). That set a
new school record and was the third time in five meets that Hutson
has passed the NCAA provisional mark.
Men’s Track –
Jordan Fife, ISU Senior from Seymour, Ind., set a new school record
in finishing third overall (the first collegian to finish) in the
3000 meters at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday. His time of
8:08.74 broke the school record he had established two years ago.
Indiana State
will be back in Bloomington, Ind., next weekend for the Hoosier
Hills Open. That meet is the final meet before the Missouri Valley
Conference Indoor Championships which will be held Feb. 23-24 at
Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. |
