SYCAMORES SURVIVE WIND, RAIN AT MISSOURI RELAYS WITH FIVE INDIVIDUAL
WINNERS
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Indiana State University
men and women’s track and field teams each picked up three victories
at the Missouri Relays, which were conducted in windy conditions and
suspended for several hours by rain and lightning.
Dani Prince led a 1-2 finish for the Indiana
State women in the 5,000 meters with a first place finish in
17:19.18. Laura Engle took second with a time of 17:24.70. Kylie Hutson returned to her winning
ways, winning the pole vault competition with a vault of 12-feet-9.5
(3.90 m) which also qualified her for the NCAA regionals in May.

Spight finished second in a jump off in the high jumpwith a leap
of 5-feet-7.25 (1.71 meters) while Myra Bess had a good meet with a fourth place
finish in the 100 meter hurdles (14.34) and a fifth place finish in
the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.82). Jeanne Roberts placed sixth in the
100 meter preliminaries (11.96) but withdrew from the finals due to
a strained hamstring. Janae Bridges finished fourth in the 200
meters (25.22), Erica Moore fifth in the 800 meters (2:14.47), Leah
Durr fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:20.65) and Lauren
Martin sixth in the long jump (18-feet-1.75 (5.53 m).
Kurt Heimann won the 800 meters for the men’s
team with a time of 1:54.57 while Sean Bowman took first in the
1,500 meters in 3:55.59 and Jason Carruthers won the discus with a
toss of 160-feet-9 (49.01 m).
The Sycamores had several runner-up finishes
during the meet. Corey Dowden was second in the triple jump with a
leap of 49-feet-4.25 (15.04 m), Curt Sunderland was second in the
high jump at 6-feet-8.75 (2.05 m), Kyle Walsh finished second in the
3,000 meter steeplechase (9:28.94), and Scott Koressel was second in
the 3,000 meters (8:47.93) with Antonio McDaniel fifth (8:56.78).
Indiana State’s 4x100 meter relay team of
Antinoice Surry, Sean Wright, Logan Edwards and Gary Ogburn finished
second in 41.30 while the 4x110 meter shuttle relay of Anthony
Bertoli, Carlton Hoyles, Paladin Jordan and Patrick Mendenhall was
second in 1:00.62.
Erik Forehand took fourth in the 10,000 meters
(32:05.71), Jeremy Gillingham fifth in the discus at 149-feet-10
(45.66 m) and Jason Carruthers was fifth in the hammer throw with a
regional qualifying effort of 196-feet-0 (59.75 m)
Former Indiana State runner Jordan Fife
finished second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:26.29.
“The competition was good, the weather was hit
and miss, it was just a typical track and field weekend,” men’s
coach John McNichols said. “This was a pretty good meet with some
good performances. Now we know the facility that we will compete at
for the NCAA regionals in May.” The
Sycamores will participate in the Big Blue Classic next weekend at
Charleston, Illinois. |
