FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THREE MORE SIGN TO COMPETE FOR ISU WOMEN’S TRACK TEAM
TERRE HAUTE – Indiana State women’s track and field Head Coach John Gartland announced the addition of three student-athletes to the team. Each has signed to attend Indiana State and will join the Sycamores for the 2007-2008 season. These three join eight others who signed to attend Indiana State during the early signing period in November.
Two of the three are from Indiana: Rachel Posey from West Harrison, and Kelsey Hanley from Arcadia. Joining these two will be Cori Carr, a transfer from the University of Miami (Florida) and originally from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Posey, a sprinter/jumper at East Central High School, finished 10th in the 2006 state track meet in the 400 with a time of 58.49. In 2007, she won the 400 meters at the sectional and placed fourth in the regional meet. She holds the school record in both the 400 and 200 meters with personal bests of 58.49 in the 400, 25.89 in the 200 and 17-feet-1 in the long jump.
“Rachel will add depth and be a contributor right away in our long spring area,” Gartland said. “She has had an excellent career at East Central.”
Hanley was a thrower at Hamilton Heights High School. Her personal best of 141-feet-9 in the discus, came when she won the discus at the 2007 regional. Hanley was second at the sectional and finished 11th overall at the state meet in 2007. She placed second in the sectional her junior year and just missed the state meet with a 10th place finish at the sectional.
“Kelsey will be our best discus thrower right away,” Gartland said. “She has the ability and athleticism to contend for an All-MVC spot right away.”
Carr was one of the top prep sprinters and hurdlers in Ohio. She was a state indoor placer in the 55 meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay. In the outdoor state meet, she ran a crucial leg on the runner-up 4x400 relay. She was also a top basketball player in high school, winning letters twice. At the University of Miami, she ran a 400 best indoors during 2006 of 58.41. Her father, Anthony Booker, played football at Indiana State from 1987-1991. Her personal bests include 14.7 in the 100 hurdles, 24.3 in the 200 meters, 1:03.39 in the 400 hurdles, and 8.47 in the 55 hurdles.
“Cori is an outstanding athlete who made her choice to come to ISU at the early part of the summer,” Gartland said. “I look forward to her contributing a lot.”
