SYCAMORES FALL TO NORTHERN IOWA AND BRADLEY ON THE ROAD
Peoria, Ill - - - The Sycamores hit the road this weekend
to face a pair of conference opponents in Northern Iowa and Bradley.
The first match was Friday October 13 against Northern Iowa.
The Sycamores struggled to find their rhythm early in the match
and while they proved to be competitive in the third game of the
match they ended up falling (0-3) to Northern Iowa. The key contributors
to the Sycamore effort were a pair of freshman, Kelli Whitaker
with 11 kills and Stephanie Volden with 8 kills
and a .583 attack percentage. The Sycamores dropped the first two
games (16-30, 16-30) before bouncing back to score 29 in the final
game despite losing by a margin of (29-31). UNI was paced by Laura
Rowen who had 16 kills on the night. The loss dropped the Sycamores
to a record of (4-15, 1-7 MVC) and boosted Northern Iowa’s
record to (15-6, 7-1 MVC).
On Saturday October 14th the Sycamores faced another tough conference
foe in the Bradley Braves. For the second consecutive night the
Sycamores struggled to find their groove offensively. The Sycamores
fell in straight games (24-30, 21-30, 25-30). Freshman Kelli
Whitaker struggled to get anything going on the night,
posting 7 kills and a .033 attack percentage, however Senior Stephanie
Roof came on strong leading the team with 10 kills and
5 blocks. Bradley was lead by Amber DeBroux who came away with 10
kills, 6 blocks, and 6 digs. The loss drops the Sycamores to (4-16,
1-8 MVC) and moves Bradley up to (5-16, 2-7 MVC).
The Sycamores are in action again next week facing Evansville on
Friday and Southern Illinois on Saturday. Both games will be at
home in the ISU arena and both are set to begin at 7pm (Eastern).
