SYCAMORES FALL IN FIVE TO THE PURPLE ACES OF EVANSVILLE

Terre Haute, Ind. - - - Friday night the Sycamores met conference opponent Evansville in a game that would be decided by costly errors and momentum. The Sycamores topped the Purple Aces of Evansville (30-24) in the first game as the Sycamores looked dominate on offense and defense however after that things began to fall apart. The Purple Aces downed the Sycamores in games two and three by scores of (31-29, 30-23) in games which saw the Sycamores take early leads only to let those leads slip away in the end. The fourth game saw the Sycamores rebound to a (30-24) win followed by a game five loss of (15-9).

The win moves the Purple aces to a record of 11-10 (5-5 MVC) and drops the Sycamores to a record of 4-17 (1-9 MVC). The Sycamores got strong play from several players on the evening. Freshman Jodi Stoker let the team with an all around effort totaling 14 kills on a .250 attack percentage and 12 digs on defense which was good for a double-double. Freshman Kelli Whitaker again was solid offensively with a team leading 16 kills and a .213 attack percentage. Senior Stephanie Roof had 14 kills with a .189 attack percentage and also led the team with 6 blocks. Sophomore Kristy Cox continued her steady play at libero with an amazing 30 digs on the night. The Purple aces got solid contributions from Kerry Sylvester, 21 kills and a .350 attack percentage, and Anne Teegardin, 14 kills with a .364 attack percentage and 9 digs.

The Sycamores are in action again tomorrow night (10/21) as they face conference opponent Southern Illinois at 7pm (Eastern) in the ISU Arena. Be sure to come and support your Sycamore volleyball team after the football team wins in this year’s homecoming.
