Julie Krofcheck
Head Coach
4th Season
|
Indiana State volleyball will begin its fourth season under the
helm of head coach Julie Krofcheck and will look to continue to
add to the foundation that has been laid over the past three seasons.
The Sycamores advanced to the MVC tournament in each of Krofcheck's
first two seasons, which is the first time in school history ISU
has earned a bid to the postseason in back-to-back years. Hard work
over the past two offseasons has led to excellent recruiting classes,
including nine freshman in 2006, which will form the backbone of
the ISU program for the future.
In Krofcheck's first three years she has already made an impact
on Sycamore volleyball history. In her inaugural campaign as a head
coach, Krofcheck guided ISU to a 14-15 record, the best winning
percentage at the school since 1993. In addition, the 9-9 mark in
MVC action was the best conference season in school history. The
new system installed by Krofcheck also helped the Sycamores break
the school’s all-time best hitting percentage as they struck
at a .217 clip on the year.
The 2004 season saw ISU post a 12-15 mark overall and an 8-10 record
in Missouri Valley Conference action. The Sycamores also won the
Central Michigan University tournament, marking the first time the
Sycamores have won a tournament on the road in five years. Overall,
the Sycamores have posted a 26-59 record under Krofcheck's direction.
Although it has only been three seasons on the ISU bench, Krofcheck
is not a stranger to success on the court as she has over 17 years
of playing and coaching experience at both the collegiate and professional
level. She also came to ISU with experience in the Missouri Valley
Conference, after a four-year stint as lead assistant at Creighton
University.
In Krofcheck’s four seasons with the Bluejays, her teams
advanced to the Missouri Valley Conference postseason tournament
on three occasions and the Bluejays led the MVC in digs her first
three seasons. She was also Creighton’s recruiting coordinator
and assisted with scheduling and directing camps.
A native of Redding, Calif., Krofcheck went to Creighton following
three seasons as the head volleyball coach at Dana College in Blair,
Neb. She also has teaching experience having served as a full-time
instructor in the physical education department at Dana.
Krofcheck worked as an assistant coach at Kansas State from 1995
to 1996 and held a similar position at Northwest Missouri State
from 1994 to 1995. Krofcheck also coached the Omaha Momentum Volleyball
Club for four years.
After beginning her playing career at American River Junior College
in Sacramento, Calif., she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical
education from Union College in Barbourville, Ky., in 1994. Krofcheck
played for the Bulldogs, earning NAIA All-America honors as a senior.
A former member of the Nebraska Tornadoes professional volleyball
team, Krofcheck was a member of the 1998 National Volleyball Association
Championship team. She spent three years competing for the Tornadoes.
