MELANIE BOEGLIN NAMED ALL-AMERICAN, INVITED TO WNBA PRE-DRAFT CAMP

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Indiana State senior All-American Melanie Boeglin has been invited to the 2006 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp which will be held in New York City early next week. She is one of 40 collegiate basketball players that have been invited to the prestigious women’s professional pre-draft camp.

This invitation comes on the heels of being named an Honorable Mention All-America by the Associated Press yesterday. She is the first Sycamore in the history of the program to earn AP All-America honors. Boeglin was named the 2006 Jackie Stiles MVC Player of the Year as well as the Prairie Farms MVC Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Sycamores won a school-record 27 games this season under sixth-year head coach Jim Wiedie.

Boeglin, who finished her career as ISU’s third all-time leading scorer as well as its leader in career steals, assists and free throws made, will travel to New York City on Sunday morning to participate in interviews and meetings with WNBA coaching personnel.

“I am really excited about the opportunity to attend this WNBA camp,” Boeglin said. “It was hard to have to wait so long to find out if I made it, and now I am just looking forward to this opportunity.”

On Monday, she will go through a pair of workouts in front of WNBA coaches and scouts as they prepare their draft lists for the 2006 WNBA draft.

“I want to show people what I have to offer this weekend,” Boeglin said. “I will be playing tough defense, pushing the ball and doing things that the pro scouts want to see a point guard do.”

The 2006 WNBA draft will be held on Wednesday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. (EST). It will be broadcast live on ESPN 2, NBA TV as well as ESPN U.
