MELANIE BOEGLIN NETS THIRD ALL-AMERICA HONOR

ATLANTA As she prepares for her trip to the WNBA Pre-Draft camp in Boston, Mass., early this week, Melanie Boeglin earned Honorable Mention All-America honors from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and Kodak. She is the first-ever Sycamore to earn an All-American mention from the WBCA.

Boeglin earlier this week was also named Honorable Mention All-America by the Associated Press and was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team selection last month. She is the only Sycamore in the history of the program to earn three separate All-America honors in the same season.

This week she travels to Boston, Mass., where 40 of the top collegiate women’s basketball players will showcase their talent to WNBA coaches and scouts in preparation for the draft which is set for Wednesday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. (EST). The draft will be televised live on ESPN 2, NBA TV as well as ESPN U.

Boeglin was named the 2006 Jackie Stiles MVC Player of the Year as well as the Prairie Farms MVC Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Sycamores won a school-record 27 games this season under sixth-year head coach Jim Wiedie.

Boeglin was joined on the Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention list by Missouri State’s Kari Koch.

This year’s team marks the 32nd year of the longest running sponsorship in women’s athletics. Selection committees in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions selected ten of the top women’s basketball players in the nation to be honored. The other top vote getters were named to the Honorable Mention list.
