FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NICOLE MOTTO NAMED ASSISTANT
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH
TERRE
HAUTE, Ind. –
Indiana State head women’s basketball coach Jim Wiedie announced
this afternoon (July 12), the hiring of Nicole Motto as an
assistant women’s basketball coach. Motto replaces Heather
Cassady, who was promoted within the staff earlier this month,
following the departure of Melanie Halker to Dayton.
Motto comes to
ISU after spending the past year as a volunteer assistant coach at
Dayton. In 2005 Dayton went 17-12, which was the third most wins in
school history over the past 20 years. The Flyers were also just one
win shy of a program record in A-10 play with an 8-8 mark. UD
finished sixth in an Atlantic 10 Conference that sent five teams to
the post season in 2005-06.
Prior to
working at Dayton, she played guard for three seasons at Miami
(Ohio). While at Miami, she led the Mid-American Conference and set
a school single-season record with 79 3-point field goals as a
junior. Five of those treys came at Hulman Center, where she buried
a career-best 20 points and dished out eight assists in a win over
the Sycamores.
“We’re excited
about the addition of Nicole Motto to our staff,” Wiedie said.
“She’s a high energy young lady with a strong understanding of the
game and a burning desire to coach at the collegiate level. That’s
exactly what we were looking for.”
As a freshman,
Motto played in 12 games for the Indiana Hoosiers, where she hit
three triples and averaged 4.5 minutes per game. She transferred to
Miami after just one season at Indiana.
“I am ecstatic
to start my coaching career at Indiana State,” Motto commented. “To
be able to work here is an amazing situation for me. I can’t think
of a more experienced and successful coaching staff to work with and
learn from.”
