KELSIE COOLEY INKS LETTER OF INTENT WITH SYCAMORES
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –
Indiana State head
coach Jim Wiedie announced this morning (Nov. 13) that he has
received a signed letter of intent from Kelsie Cooley, a 6-1
left-handed post player from Dayton, Ohio. Cooley has enjoyed a
successful career for one of Ohio’s finest programs, Beavercreek
High School, where she plays for coach Ed Zink.
“We're very excited that
Kelsie Cooley has decided to become a Sycamore,” Wiedie said.
“She has been an outstanding player for one of the best high
school programs in Ohio (Beavercreek H.S.) and for one of the
best AAU programs in Ohio (Dayton Lady Hoopstars). Kelsie is a
perfect fit for our system as a 6-1 lefty post with
inside/outside abilities. She's a warrior-type player with a
high basketball IQ. To top it off, she is a terrific student.”
Cooley earned a starting role
for Zink halfway through her freshman year, with Beavercreek
going 18-5 that season, and then going 17-6 during her sophomore
and junior campaigns.
She averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as a sophomore and
10.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as a junior.
“I’m an inside-outside player, I create mismatches because of my
height,” she told the Terre Haute Tribune Star earlier
this fall. “If they bring someone my height, I can take them off
the dribble. Against someone smaller, I can post them up.”
The Sycamores will tip-off
the 2006-07 campaign Wednesday evening, Nov. 15, when they
travel to Big Ten foe Iowa. The contest begins at 7:35 p.m. (ET)
and can be heard live in the Wabash Valley on WISU-FM (89.7).
