KELSEY LUNA NAMED MVC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Indiana State freshman guard Kelsey Luna (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph’s Academy) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week as announced by the league office earlier today (Nov. 27). This award is the first of her career, and the first for the program since Ashley Clark took it on February 28, 2005.

This past week Luna averaged 16.5 points per game and hit well over 50% of both her field goal attempts and 3-pointers as the Sycamores split a pair of contests against Eastern Illinois and Michigan State.

Luna stared for the Sycamores in its 102-86 victory versus EIU by scoring a freshman single-game record 27 points. She hit 9-of-11 shots from the field, including a school-record tying 6-of-6 from long range. Those six triples were also good enough for second-best in the program’s history for one game. Luna added three assists as well as four steals in 26 minutes.

At Michigan State, she scored six points and added an assist and steal against the No. 16 Spartans at Breslin Center. For the week, she hit 10-of-18 shots from the field (55.6%) and as well as a blazing hot 7-of-13 from the three (53.8%). Luna posted four assists against just one turnover with five steals.

Indiana State returns to action tomorrow night, November 28, when they host Loyola (Ill.) at Hulman Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
