INDIANA STATE CAN'T OVERCOME RED HOT PHOENIX SHOOTING

BOX SCORE (HTML) or BOX SCORE (PDF)

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Indiana State downed Wisconsin-Green Bay by 39 points one year ago Hulman Center, but it was a different Phoenix team that took the court this afternoon (Dec. 9) as the Sycamores fell by a score of 84-66. ISU falls to 5-3, while UW-Green Bay improved to 5-3.

Indiana State could find no answer to defending Horizon League Player of the Year, Nicole Soulis, who scored 23 points in the Phoenix victory. She hit 11-of-14 shots in the game. Couple that with brilliant outside shooting for UW-Green Bay, who finished with 14 made 3-pointers and the Sycamores simply could not keep up with the Phoenix.

ISU led early, 2-0, but quickly fell behind by as many 20 points in the first half. The Sycamores were able to knock down back-to-back 3-pointers by junior Angela Phillips to keep the game close heading into the break, 42-25.

After hitting just two 3-pointers in the first half, the Sycamores found their stroke in the second stanza, finishing the game with eight made field goals from behind the arc. ISU also turned the ball over 10 times in the first half against the pressure man-to-man UW-Green Bay defense, and did so just twice in the second period.

That effort was enough to trim the UW-Green Bay advantage down to 11 points on three occasions late, but the Sycamores just could not get key stops when they needed them down the stretch as the Phoenix won 84-66.

Phillips led the Sycamores with 18 points in the game, by hitting four 3-pointers. Junior Laura Rudolphi added 10 while freshman Kelsey Luna tacked on 10 of her own.

ISU out-rebounded UW-Green Bay by a wide 39-31 margin, including 15 offensive rebounds. It was the fourth consecutive game in which Indiana State has hauled in more rebounds than the opposition. On an off-shooting night, the Sycamores did go 8-for-8 at the free throw line.

The Sycamores now enter an eight-day break for Final Exams as they next play at Toledo on Sunday, December 17.
