AST 441 Flight Instructor Theory

AST 441 Flight Instructor Theory covers the theory of flight and ground instruction, aircraft performance, analysis of flight maneuvers, and other basic theory as needed by the airplane flight instructor. In other words, this course is designed to teach the student how to become a flight instructor, how to instruct in the airplane and how to analyze flight maneuvers. When the course is completed the student should have the aviation teaching skills necessary to pass the FAA oral/written portion of the practical test. The flight skills needed to pass the practical test will be obtained from any FAA Part 141 flight training center or one whose training is equal to, or exceeds part 141 standards. Indiana State University is not affiliated with any flight training facility for this or any other online course or program. Guidance, as to how one obtains the flight instructor certificate will be a major part of this course. This course was videotaped in the University media classroom and as such will provide a great deal of insight as to how the training of a new flight instructor is accomplished. The videotapes will illustrate how the new students begin to put together a flight lesson, the mistakes they and you will make when you first start and how the lessons will improve with time and practice. The professor of this course is also an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner for initial CFI certification. As such, he is aware of the mistakes a new applicant is prone to make and will show the student how to correct them and what it will take to become an effective flight instructor.
