Dear Drum Majors and Band Directors:

Welcome to the Indiana State University Drum Major Clinic! Each year we work hard to give Drum Majors all the specific skills they need to be successful with their bands in the fall and the things that will be useful to them throughout their lives.

We encourage you to consider what we have to offer in the following areas:

INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION: An important feature of the Drum Major Clinic is the private instruction the students receive on music they will be performing with their bands. Another priority for us is that the Drum Majors spend time conducting live musicians in several different settings. This gives students experiences leading in very real musical situations. Through the use of small groups of 10-15 students, each individual is able to experience a thorough curriculum of conducting, marching, salutes, leadership, and teaching.

USEFULNESS OF SKILLS: In designing the curriculum, we concentrate on the things that students actually need, not on the things that are convenient for us to teach. We focus on skills that many Drum Majors will need throughout the season , from executing salutes, to motivating their peers, to teaching drill. Our leadership curriculum focuses on getting Drum Majors to consider many of the challenges theyll encounter as student leaders while putting them in many realistic situations that they may experience on and off the field.

DATES AND COST: This year's clinic will take place during four separate sessions. The regular weeklong session will take place on July 6-11, with check-in beginning on the morning of the 6th. We will also be hosting three weekend mini-camps on June 13-14, 20-21 and 27-28. These weekend sessions will be basic presentations of conducting technique, leadership, and salutes, but will not include most of the many other distinctive features of the weeklong clinic. The costs for the July 6-11 session are $425 for resident students and $300 for commuters. Included in the cost are a camp T-shirt and camp picture, a personalized certificate of achievement, all instructional materials, and a videotape on which the Drum Major's conducting performances are recorded. For the weekend mini-camps, the cost is $300 for resident students and $175 for commuters. Enrollment will be limited in all sessions, so please submit applications and deposits early. The deadlines for each event are listed on the application form. Full payment of fees will be due upon listed deadlines.
