General
Description
Instruction and intervention practices are key components in a
tiered system of prevention and intervention. The system incorporates
increasing intensities of instruction that are provided to students in
direct proportion to their individual needs. Often tiered systems of
prevention and intervention are conceptualized within frameworks
including three or four levels of support.
For instance, a three tiered model includes
- core instruction for all students,
- targeted group interventions for some students, and
- intensive, individual interventions for a small number of students.
Within each tier is a set of support structures or activities that help teachers implement research-based curriculum and instructional practices at levels of fidelity that are designed to improve student achievement.
