Plans are currently underway for our first Scott College of Business Homecoming Hullabaloo Oct. 15, 2011, at The Ohio Building's Casa Urbana in Terre Haute.
The event will follow a full day of Indiana State University Homecoming festivities, including the Blue and White Parade (9 a.m.), Tent City (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and ISU's football game against Western Illinois (3:05 p.m.), so make plans now for the Hullabaloo to be an important part of your Homecoming celebration!
The Homecoming theme this year is "Showtime Sycamores," so this event will center around movies, film and Hollywood glitter and glam. We also will be having a “Walk of Fame” sponsorship opportunity where you can purchase a Hollywood Star with your name or company name on it for $100 to help offset the cost of the event and support professional development opportunities for our students (all proceeds will benefit this cause).
Sponsorships are now available and you can reserve you tickets online (a limited number are available) or by calling Venus Pierce in the dean's office at (812) 237-2000, so get in touch if you are interested in supporting this worthwhile event!

Executives from KPMG, LLP and State Auto Insurance Companies will kick off the Scott College of Business Leader In Action Series for 2011-2012.
On Sept. 22-23, the Scott College will welcome Jon Greenlee (Finance, '85), Managing Director of Financial Services Regulatory Practice for KPMG, LLP in Washington, D.C. He will discuss "After the Crisis: The Transformation of Financial Services" at his keynote presentation and dinner the evening of Sept. 22. Robert Restrepo, Chairman, President and CEO of State Auto Insurance Companies will discuss "An Industry in Transition" on Tuesday, Oct. 18. State Auto is sponsoring the industry reception prior to Mr. Restrepo's keynote event.
Both evening events are free and open to the public. The receptions take place at 5 p.m. in ISU's Hulman Memorial Student Union, Dede II, while the dinner and presentations take place in Dede III. Donations for the Scott College Leader In Action Program will be accepted that evening for anyone wishing to support it. Donations and sponsorships help keep these events free and open to the public.
As part of their visits, both Greenlee and Restrepo will be speaking to classes and the community in other settings. For instance, Mr. Restrepo will be the keynote speaker at Downtown Terre Haute Rotary Oct. 18 as part of his Leader In Action activities.
The Scott College of Business' Leader In Action program was officially launched in 2007 as part of Financial Services being named an Indiana State University Program of National Distinction.

A conference at Indiana State University featured researchers presenting their award-winning papers about "emerging critical issues that affect financial services regulation," a conference official said.
The presenters, who received funding from Networks Financial Institute, spoke at the Financial Services Policy Reform Conference at ISU on May 16.
We are in the process of recruiting additional mentors for the Scott College of Business Mentor Program and need your help.
The program generally takes place during the sophomore or junior year of undergraduate study, and its focus is career and professional development and internship preparation. The primary goal of the program is to provide students with a corporate/professional point of view to complement the work of the ISU faculty as students work towards their careers. It is intended to enhance the student’s experiences through personalized attention from a seasoned professional.
Volunteers would be paired with students as early as possible this
semester. For more information or to volunteer to be a mentor,

The Scott College of Business invites you to join us for our third annual business social and networking event in Indianapolis. The date and location are not yet confirmed, but it will be sometime in 2012, so please stay tuned. If your business would be interested in supporting a presenting sponsorship for us to have the event at a hotel or other central location (preferably on the north side this year) or if you would be interested in hosting the event in your company's space (should accommodate at least 100 people), please contact Maria Greninger or Venus Pierce to discuss. We love to showcase the businesses of our alumni and friends during these events.
The networking event gives attendees a chance to reconnect with old friends and
meet business contacts throughout the Circle City and beyond.
Please consider supporting this cause. Any and all proceeds go to support vital professional
development activities for our business students. For more information or to register for the 2012 event, go to: www.indstate.edu/business/reception. |
europeans unconvinced about leadership in economic recoveryEuropeans are not convinced that European Union leaders dealing with the region's economic bailout "have a clue as to how to solve this," an Indiana State University visiting scholar said. There is a high degree of disagreement amongst the various EU institutions and their key actors, said Professor Sandeep Gopalan, head of the law department at the University of Ireland, Maynooth, who was a visiting scholar to the Scott College of Business at ISU. His visit is sponsored by the college's Networks Financial Institute (NFI).

Though Sandeep Gopalan taught Indiana State University students in a classroom a continent away from their Terre Haute campus, it wasn't his first time teaching them. Back in the U.S., he shared a building with them. Gopalan, head of the department of law at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, is a visiting scholar in the Scott College of Business at ISU. During his visit in the 2010-2011 academic year, Gopalan worked with ISU professors and students to create different projects to teach students. The projects ranged from a role-play simulation for research to a three-week travel experience earlier this summer where students learned about international business - in Europe.

Indiana
State University professor Art Sherwood
devised a final project for his students
that was, in a word, brilliant!
Sherwood, an ISU associate professor of management, taught his international business management course during a three-week journey a group of students embarked on to Europe. Since he and the students resided in Ireland at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, during their stay, he implemented an iconic Irish resource into his course: the archives at the Guinness Storehouse in nearby Dublin.
