General Session Speaker

David F. Robinson, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Management
Scott College of Business, Indiana State University

Dr. Robinson is an assistant professor of management in the Scott College of Business at Indiana State University. His research interests include learning and innovation in organizations and competitive strategy. In teaching, Dr. Robinson encourages students to examine entrepreneurial opportunities and engage in learning through experiences. At ISU his students created and operate the Executive Express Cafe learning laboratory and provide organizations with consulting services through the Sycamore Business Advisors.

Prior to coming to ISU, Dr. Robinson taught global and strategic management in graduate programs in healthcare at Texas Tech University and the Graduate School of Business at the University of California - Irvine. Dr. Robinson received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, his MBA from Indiana University - Bloomington and his BBA from UW-Madison. He is First Vice President of the Mental Health Association of Vigo County where he focuses on providing additional community supportive housing for mentally ill residents of Terre Haute.

mcmillanMichael G. McMillan, Ph.D., CPA, CFA

Director, Ethics and Professional Standards CFA Institute

Dr. McMillan joined CFA Institute in October of 2008 after more than a decade as a professor of accounting and finance at Johns Hopkins University’s Carey School of Business and George Washington University’s School of Business. Prior to pursuing a career in academia, he was a securities analyst and portfolio manager at Bailard, Biehl, and Kaiser and Merus Capital Management in San Francisco, California.

As Director of Ethics and Professional Standards, Dr. McMillan is responsible for creating, sourcing, and developing educational content for CFA Institute members and investment professionals in the area of ethics and professional standards. Prior to joining the Institute, Dr. McMillan served in a variety of volunteer capacities at the CFA Institute. He was a member of the Council of Examiners for 10 years, and a grader for the CFA Level II and Level III exams for 14 years.

Dr. McMillan is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Business Research. He is also the Treasurer and a member of the board of directors of Fort Dupont Ice Arena in Washington, DC. Prior to joining CFA Institute, he was a Vice President and Treasurer of the CFA Society of Washington, DC.

Dr. McMillan has a PhD in accounting and finance from George Washington University, an MBA from Stanford University, and BA from the University Pennsylvania. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Chartered Investment Counselor, and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

HerrCatherine S. Herr, C.P.S.M.

Senior Director, Global Manufacturing Procurement Eli Lilly and Company

Cathy Herr, senior director, global manufacturing procurement for Eli Lilly and Company, leads a team of 80 employees who support Lilly Manufacturing sites around the world by ensuring the right product is available, at the right time in, the right quality, and at the best value. Cathy’s team is responsible for category management and supplier relationship management for over $3 billion in annual spend.

Since joining Lilly in 1982, she has held numerous positions within the company, including information technology, human resources and distribution. During her 17 years in Procurement, Cathy has led a variety of projects, including:

  • Implementation of Strategic Sourcing with A.T. Kearney
  • Strategic sourcing of lab supplies & equipment for Lilly Research Labs
  • Consolidation of lab storerooms and movement to vendor-managed inventory
  • Reengineering of the Purchase to Pay process, including implementation of e-catalog, web invoicing, and SAP for US operations
  • Development and global rollout of a Supplier Code of Conduct
  • Implementation of Supply Chain Risk Management for Manufacturing Operations
  • Sponsorship of a global facilities management integration and outsourcing project

A native of Anderson, Indiana, Cathy moved to Indianapolis after graduating from Ball State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Management Information Systems. Cathy recently became a (CPSM) certified professional in supply management, from the Institute for Supply Management, Inc.

Cathy enjoys spending time with her family, husband Dale Herr, and three boys, Chris, Josh and Jake.
