Description: The OTIS J. AGGERTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN
INTERPRETATION was established in memory of Dr. Otis J. Aggertt who had served
on the Indiana State University faculty for 17 years-from 1956 until his death
on October 1, 1973. He held the rank of Professor of Speech and Head of the
Speech Education area. For a number of years, he served as Director of Forensics
at ISU.

Description: The Claude Billings Scholarship was established
to honor individuals participating in Journalism at ISU. Claude Billings, an
educator and newspaperman, was born in 1904 in Vermillion County and graduated
from Montezuma High School. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree from Wabash
College and a master’s degree from Indiana State University. Mr. Billings
taught and coached basketball as well as taught at Greenburg and Turkey Run
High Schools and at Elgin, IL Academy, Indiana University and Indiana State
University. He served three years on the copy desk of the Indianapolis Star,
one year as valley editor of the Terre Haute Star and three years as adviser to
The Statesman, ISU’s campus newspaper. Mr. Billings served for several years as
secretary of the Indiana Republican Central committee and was past president of
the Indiana Republican Editorial Association. He received the award "Sagamore of
the Wabash", the highest honor bestowed by an Indiana governor. Claude Billings
died at his home in Montezuma, Indiana in 1985 at the age of 81.

Description: The DON AND LUCIA BOLT SCHOLARSHIP was
established from a bequest in the Will of Lucia Keller Bolt. It was her desire
that the recipients be primarily interested in communications or public speaking
in the ISU Department of Communication. Mrs. Bolt was a teacher at Coalmont and
Rockford before joining the ISU faculty as an assistant professor of speech. She
retired in 1976 and died in December 1983. Her husband, Don, died in February
1977.

Description: In recognition of Dr. John A. Boyd’s 29 years
of service to ISU, this scholarship fund was established in his name by his
former students, colleagues, other friends, and family. The interest income
from the invested fund monies will be used as a scholarship to further the
education of one or more outstanding journalism students each year. The fund
remains open for additional contributions.

the name of George L. Carey for the benefit of a worthy student, or students,
enrolled at ISU.

Selection Criteria: Recipient(s) must be graduates of either
North Vermillion High School or South Vermillion High School in Vermillion
County, Indiana with a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, or
from a high school in Parke County, Indiana. First preference will be given to
full time ISU students with a major in Journalism. If no eligible Journalism
majors, Communication majors may be considered.

Description: This memorial scholarship is in honor of Betty
Chadwick Sullivan, a WTHI-TV news photographer who earned national recognition
for her outstanding accomplishments as a television photo-journalist. She died
in 1981. Ms. Sullivan was one of the nation’s pioneer women in the field of
television news photography, and her work measured with the best in the nation.
Her work ranged from photographing local auto crashes and fires to covering
national political conventions. In her later years with WTHI-TV, she earned
distinction as the news manager. Monies to this scholarship fund were
contributed by colleagues, friends, family, and WTHI-TV, and the fund remains
open for additional contributions.

Description: The EVA CHIPPER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP was
established in memory of Eva Chipper, an assistant professor of elementary
education at the ISU University School for 13 years (1964-77). Her unique and
creative work to encourage third grade students to have an appreciation and
love for literature, art, and music gained wide recognition. This scholarship is
awarded to an elementary education major with interest and ability in creative
dramatics and oral interpretation of literature for children.

Description: Ralph "Cork" McHargue was born December 17,
1927, and became one of Terre Haute’s most influential, popular personalities in
the field of Radio-TV broadcasting. Mr. McHargue was a Terre Haute broadcaster
for 38 years, having started his career in 1947 at WBOW Radio. His first job
was gathering and writing the news, thus earning the distinction as the city’s
first broadcast journalist. For the next 25 years, he played a key role in the
station’s development, working in the areas of programming, promotion, sales,
sports, news, and management. He left WBOW in 1969 to become editor of the
Saturday Spectator, a weekly publication. He joined WTHI stations in 1977
and enjoyed great success after being named Radio and TV farm director in
January, 1983. It was while hosting a WTHI sponsored farm tour that he died
in Madrid, Spain on March 8, 1985.

Description: The Jeffrey B. Liametz Memorial Scholarship was
established by Dr. James Backes and other friends of Jeffrey Liametz in memory
of his interest in and dedication to his alma mater and profession. The
scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving student majoring in public
relations, who has an accumulated grade point average of at least

Description: The McComb Broadcasting Award was established
in memory of Miss Gertrude McComb, a 1927 ISU graduate and a teacher for many
years. She made the basic gift to establish the endowment which provides for the
annual award. After her death in 1965, many friends and organizations made
memorial contributions which were added to the fund.

Selection Criteria: Students must be juniors majoring in
broadcasting with 55 to 100 credit hours, a minimum 2.5 GPA, and who has made
a significant contribution to broadcasting at ISU, and a contribution to
educational and/or commercial broadcasting activities in campus/community.

Description: The Bruce McCormick Scholarship was established
in 1991 through a very generous bequest in the Will of Margaret Riddle, for
the sole purpose of funding scholarships in journalism. Miss Riddle received a
bachelor's degree from Indiana State University in 1927. She taught English and
was the librarian in the Des Plaines, Illinois school system. After retirement,
she returned to Terre Haute where she was active in the Union Hospital Women's
Service League, the Vigo County Historical Society and the Swope Art Museum.
Miss Riddle died in March 1990.
