Description: In the spirit of Nancy Sauer’s passion for and
commitment to theatrical dance, this scholarship is set up to encourage the
serious pursuit of a concentration in Theatrical Dance within the Theater
Department.
Open to: Entering freshmen interested in theatrical dance or
undergraduate theater majors concentrating in theatrical dance. The student must
be enrolled in courses offered by the Theater Department as well as in the dance
area within the Physical Education Department.
Selection Criteria: Eligible students must be entering freshmen
or undergraduate students already enrolled in courses offered by the Theater
Department. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Financial need may be
considered but will not be a determining factor.

Description: The scholarship was made possible by a gift
from Mildred and Fred Crapo in memory of Mr. Crapo’s mother, Kathryn Fischer
Crapo, and his aunt, Eva Fischer Hollinger, both ISU graduates. Mr. Crapo, a
native of Terre Haute, attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was associated in business with
United Cable, Muncie, Indiana. Mr. Crapo is deceased.

Description: The scholarship was established by colleagues,
friends, former students, and campus theater organizations in honor of Dr.
Gladys M. Rohrig, professor of speech and play director, at the time of her
retirement from ISU in 1969. She served on the ISU faculty for 22 years
(1947-69) and maintained much interest in the ISU Theater and ISU drama students.
Dr. Rohrig is deceased.

Description: The Gladys Rohrig Theater Scholarship-Bonus for
Excellence is made possible through a generous bequest in the Will of Dr. Rohrig.
She served on the ISU faculty for 22 years (1947-69). At the time of her
retirement from ISU, she was a professor of speech and play director. Dr.
Rohrig is deceased.

Description: Jeff Wolz first joined the ISU Theater faculty
in January 1975 and remained a full-time faculty member until August 1978. He
taught a variety of courses, was responsible for costuming theater productions,
and worked to restructure the total theater program. After he left the faculty,
Mr. Wolz continued to return for several years as costumer for ISU’s
professional company. A great many of the exciting, innovative and quality
aspects of the theater program are a direct product of Jeff Wolz. This
scholarship was established by Jeff’s family and friends.
Open to: Entering freshmen majoring in the Theater Department.

Description: The Joan Utterback Award in Theater was
established for a worthy student in Theater. The award is in memory of Joan
Utterback, former student in Theater.

Description: The Karen Drake Memorial Scholarship was
established in 1994 by Karen Drake’s family and friends to honor her memory.
She graduated from ISU in 1989 with majors in Theater and Computer Science.
While at ISU, she received numerous awards for her superior work in the Theater
program. She was also part of ISU SummerStage for two years. Prior to her
untimely death in 1993, Ms. Drake was Project Manager and Coordinator for the
installation of theatrical lighting systems for Vincent Lighting Systems in
Cincinnati, Ohio.
Open to: Undergraduate Theater majors and minors with interest in
Lighting or Technical Theater and who at least have attained sophomore status.

2.5, be Theater majors, concentration in theater design and technology and be
active in the Department classes and productions. Financial need may be

Description: The Lilith Baur-Children’s Theater Memorial
Scholarship was established by the Children’s Theatre of Terre Haute in honor
and memory of Mrs. Oscar (Lilith) Baur who had been very active in sponsoring
activities of the Children’s Theater of Terre Haute for many years. Mrs. Baur
had maintained a great interest in developing dramatic talent of children and
their appreciation of the arts through participation in theater.

Description: The Phyllis Dye Turner/Theta Alpha Phi
scholarship was established in 1992 by the Theta Alpha Phi Chapter of ISU, with
generous assistance from Phyllis D. Turner, an enthusiastic supporter of the
Department of Theater. It is the desire of the donors to provide financial
assistance to a deserving theater student whose work and attitude backstage have
enabled a play to be successful.
Open to: undergraduate Theater majors and minors who are Theta
Alpha Phi members and who have at least attained sophomore status.

Description: The Theater Angel Scholarship in Memory of
Diana Stewart was originally established in 1995 through proceeds received from
a Premiere Party held on the ISU Campus celebrating the television debut of “The
Avenging Angel,” and original screenplay written by Gary L. Stewart. Dr.
Stewart was the Chairperson of the Department of Theater for many years. He and
his wife, Diana Markham Stewart, helped form the Theater Department at ISU.
Following Mrs. Stewart’s death in March 2001, Dr. Stewart changed the name of
the scholarship and created criteria, dedicating the scholarship to honor the
memory of his wife.

attained sophomore status.

Description: The Tom and Helen Headley Scholarship was
established in 1990 to honor the many contributions of Mr. and Mrs. Headley to
the ISU Department of Theater. Mr. Headley was Director of Theater from 1960 to
1973 and founded Summer Theater in 1965. He retired from the ISU faculty in
1979. The Scholarship also serves to memorialize Helen Headley who died in
1990. Both Tom and Helen Headley received their undergraduate degrees from ISU
and, as students, were active in the theater program. Mr. Headley died in
January 2002.

attained sophomore status.

Selection Criteria: Consideration for this scholarship shall be
given to an Indiana State University student enrolled in the ISU Department of
theater with a focus primarily in the area of technical direction, lighting
design, or theater management. Recipients must have a minimum cumulative grade
point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
