My three pieces are from my Senior Studio Painting class that I took in the Spring of 2020.  My focus was on portraits and I wanted to paint a variety of people.  The people I chose were someone I knew, a character, and a celebrity.  I used a grid technique to make my image the size of my canvas and I used a grid as a background.

The first painting I did was Brother.  When my brother was a senior in high school, I took his senior pictures.  I wanted to take one of those pictures and paint it.  It is 16" x 20" and, like I said, I used a grid technique to get my image on my canvas.  The colors that I used for him are the colors from my reference photo.  I used red and orange for the background because I felt it represented him best.  To me these colors can represent chaos and when I think of my brother I think chaotic.  The red can also represent love.  I love my brother and he is one of the people that I am closest to.

The second painting I did was Heather.  I used the character Heather Chandler from the movie Heathers.  I tried something different with this one by making it look like she was dripping.  In the movie she is poisoned and I wanted to represent the poison dripping.  The background colors are green, yellow, and blue.  Those three colors correlate with other characters in the movie.  The green and yellow are for the other two Heathers.  The blue is for Veronica.

The last painting is Billie.  It is based on the singer Billie Eilish.  I referenced a shot from her music video You Should See Me in a Crown.  She is holding a spider in the music video so I referenced her pet spider and made the spider the colors of her pet.  The background is green and black because when I think of Billie Eilish those are the colors I associate with her.  Most of the time when you see pictures of Billie Eilish, her hair is green and black.

Jordan Leverenz will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with a 2D Concentration.
