Sudipto Roy, Ph.D.

Education:
Dr. Sudipto Roy is a Professor at the Department of Criminology. He
obtained his B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. Degrees in Anthropology from the
University of Calcutta, in his native country of India. He obtained an M.A.
in Social Anthropology from
Carleton University,
Ottawa, Canada in 1980. Upon graduation, he worked as a Research
assistant at the Sociological Research Unit of the Indian Statistical
Institute, Calcutta. Afterwards, he completed his M.A. in Sociology from the
University of Oklahoma, and
Ph.D. from the Criminal Justice Program, Department of Sociology,
Western Michigan University.
Dr. Roy has published his research on the impact of Victim Restitution
Programs (both court-based and Victim Offender Reconciliation Projects) and
Electronically Monitored Home Detention Programs on adult as well as
juvenile offenders in Criminology and Social Integration, Federal Probation,
Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice, Journal of Crime and Justice,
Journal of Offender Monitoring, The Justice Professional, and in
Intermediate Sanctions: Sentencing in the 1990s (ed. By Smykla, J.O. and
Selke, W.) and in Innovative Trends and Specialized Strategies in
Community-Based Corrections (ed. By Fields, Charles). Also, he is a member
of the Editorial Advisory Board as well as a reviewer for the
Criminology and Social Integration (published by the University of
Zagreb, Croatia), and the Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice.
Additionally, he reviews manuscripts for Justice Quarterly, The
Justice Professional, and Police Practice and Research: An
International Journal. He also reviews manuscripts for Prentice-Hall
as well as West/Wadsworth Publishers. Furthermore, he has presented a number
of papers in international, national, and regional professional meetings. In
1992 and 1994, he was invited as a resource faculty at the Eighth and the
Tenth Annual Post Graduate Seminar on "Victims and the Criminal Justice
System" held at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Also, as
a doctoral student he participated in the same seminar held at the
Inter-university Centre of Post-graduate Studies, Dubrovnik, Croatia, in
1987.
Prior to accepting a faculty position at
Indiana State University
in Fall 1994, Dr. Roy was on the Faculty of the School of Public and
Environmental Affairs, Indiana
University Northwest, and Department of Sociology,
Delaware State University.
He has conducted varied evaluation research projects on community
correctional programs in Michigan, Delaware, New York, and Indiana. He is a
member of the World Society of Victimology, American Society of Criminology,
Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, and Association for Correctional
Research and Information Management.
Dr. Roy's teaching expertise include Criminological Theories, Research
Methods in Criminology/Criminal Justice, Community-Based Corrections,
Juvenile Delinquency, Victimology, Crime and Public Policy, Introduction to
Corrections, etc. His areas of specialization are corrections, juvenile
justice, victimology, criminology, program evaluation, statistics, and race
and ethnic relations.
Dr. Roy is the liaison person (Academic/Research Management) for the
exchange program established between Indiana State University and the
University of Zagreb, Croatia on April 26, 2005.
