Chris Brown is an alumni of the University of
Arkansas at Monticello, where he received a B.A. in Political Science
and Speech/Communications. He is a Master of Arts Student in the
Department of Communications at the University of Arkansas at
Monticello. As an undergraduate, Chris was accepted into several
nationally recognized organizations, such as the Alpha Chi National
Honor Society, Pi Kappa Delta, an honorary debate society, and the Pi
Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. Chris has
presented at numerous conferences on the topic of otherization,
including the 2011 ISU Third Annual International Crime, Media & Popular
Culture Studies Conference. Chris’ main area of research is the
predominant forms of otherization in graphic novels. He plans to expand
his research to examine the social implications that otherization in
mainstream media creates.
