High Performance Networking (HPN) - Internet 2
Through IHETS’ membership as a Sponsored Education Group
Participant (SEGP), Indiana State University is connected to
Internet2. Internet2 is a US university-led consortium with partners
in industry and government that interconnects
universities, research networks, and advanced educational networks
with the goal of developing and deploying advanced network
applications and technology. It provides a connection for educators
and researchers to virtually every research network in the world,
opening the door to greater collaborations and communication.
This connection provides Indiana State University with
educational and research opportunities to collaborate
with other Internet2 participants utilizing advanced applications
such as multicast, digital video, H.323 video in ways not possible
on today's Internet. Internet2 members are testing new
applications that will transform research, teaching and learning.
Partnerships among academia, government and industry fostered the
Internet in its infancy. Internet2 recreates these partnerships by
bringing together
researchers and engineers from leading universities, government
laboratories and commercial enterprises. University leadership
encourages long-term thinking
and open standards. The global Internet is transforming the way we
work, learn and communicate today. Internet2 members are working on
the technologies that will transform the fabric of life tomorrow.
