Return to tutorial list

If Group Discussion Board is enabled in your group you can conduct online discussions, create new threads, and upload files in discussion. To access group discussion board you need to enter Group Pages and click on the Group Discussion Board link. (If you need instruction on how to get to your groups, return to tutorials and click on How to Enter Groups)

Once you are in the Group Discussion Board screen, all of the forums that you have access to will be listed. Click on the forum link you wish to enter. In this example, click on discussions link.

Once you are in a forum you will see any messages that have already been posted and you can start new threads from this screen. In Blackboard a thread basically is a new discussion subject. To start a new thread, click on the Create Thread button.

In the Create New Message screen, enter a subject line along with your message. If you want you can also attach a file at this time click on Attach a file link.

To post your message click on the Submit button.

When you click on the Submit button you will return to the main discussion board screen. Here you can see the message you just posted.

To read a message, click on the message subject link.

The message you selected will open. If you want to reply to the message, click on Reply button.

The response window works just like you are posting an original message. The only real difference is that you are replying to an existing message.

When you look at the message list you will notice that the reply is indented. If a message is indented, it is a reply to the message above. New threads will always be all the way to the left and replies will always be indented.
