Attaching USB Peripherals

USB peripherals can expand the capacity and capabilities of your ThinkPad. You can connect any USB device to your ThinkPad, but when disconnecting devices always follow the correct procedure provided by the manufacturer.

When purchasing new peripherals such as a web cam, digital camera, scanner, external drive, or any other device that you want to connect to your ThinkPad, make sure the device is USB 2.0 compatible.

Portable compact flash memory devices (also known as thumb drives, flash drives, or memory keys) allow you to exchange information between systems via a functional USB port. They are available in a variety of sizes for file transferring or sharing between systems. The drive will appear in your file management system with a separate drive letter like your DVD/CD-ROM.

To Connect a USB Device:

  1. Plug in the device's power cord if needed.
  2. Plug in the USB device's cable or USB end to the USB port on the computer.
