McAfee Virus Scan
Set or Change Your Virus Definition AutoUpdate Settings

- Right click on the McAfee VirusScan shield icon in the system tray
and select Virus Console....
- OR go to Start, All Programs, Network Associates,
Virus Scan, Virus Console.
- In the console window, double click AutoUpdate
- Click Schedule.
- On the Task tab, check Enable (scheduled task to run at
specified time).
- Click the Schedule tab.
- Schedule the task:
- Set how often you want your virus definitions to update.
- Set what time you want the definitions to update. Remember that your
computer must be on and connected to the internet to do this.
- Set what day you want your definitions to update.
- Click OK when you are done. Click OK again to get out of
the console screen

Update Your Virus Definitions

Check to see if you have the latest virus scan updates from McAfee installed
on your computer. McAfee releases new virus definitions every week. If there is
a new virus attack, other updates will be released as needed.
- Go to Start, All Programs, Network Associates,
VirusScan Console.
- The AutoUpdate task will indicate whether or not the last update was
successful.
- If your virus definitions are more than seven days old, you can right
click the McAfee VirusScan shield icon in the system tray and select Update
Now to download the latest virus definitions. You must be connected to the
internet for this to work.

Set or Change Your Automatic
VirusScan Settings

You set McAfee to automatically scan your computer for viruses at a set time
on a set day. To do this:
- Right click on the McAfee VirusScan shield icon in the system tray
and select Virus Console....
- OR go to Start, All Programs, Network Associates,
Virus Scan, Virus Console.
- In the console window, double-click Scan All FIxed
Disks.
- Click Schedule.
- On the Task tab, check Enable (scheduled task to run at
specified time).
- Click the Schedule tab.
- Schedule the task:
- Set how often you want to scan your computer.
- Set what time you want the definitions to update. Remember that your
computer must be on at the time and day you select.
- Set what day you want your definitions to update. The example below
is set to scan every Friday at 4:00 PM.
- Click OK when you are done. Click OK again to get out of
the console screen.

Scan Your Computer for Viruses

If you would like to scan your computer or a particular file or disk for viruses:
- Right click on the McAfee VirusScan shield icon in the system tray
and select On Demand Scan.
- OR open the program by going to Start, All Programs,
Network Associates, Virus Scan, On-Demand Scan.
- To change the drive you want to scan, click Edit.
- Click on Start to begin scanning your drive(s).
NOTE: If you are scanning your entire hard drive, this scan may take as long
as 30 minutes to an hour to run.
