ThinkPad Maintenance: Backing Up Your ThinkPad

Burning a CD or DVD

You may wish to burn a CD to backup or store files from your computer. One of your best defenses against lost files caused by viruses, worms, and software or hardware failures is regularly backing up your files. Pick a schedule and method of backup and stick to it. Label each disk, including the date the backup was performed. Store the backup disks in a safe place, and NOT with the laptop. How often you backup depends on how much your files change, but once a week or once every other week is a good interval for most people.

You can manually choose what files to burn to a CD or DVD and back them up yourself. See ThinkPad Features: Burning a CD or DVD.
