 **Continuing Education Department of Vincennes University Jasper Campus
     now has available  a noncredit Wedding Planning Certificate program
     available via the internet.  The program is for an individual looking
     to get started as a professional wedding planner. The  300-hour
     training  program covers everything an aspiring wedding planner needs
     to know to get started in the business, from contracts to etiquette,
     flowers, music, day of services, marketing, business practices, trade
     secrets and industry specific applications. Whether students plan on
     working part-time, planning only a few weddings a year, or a
     full-time career, this program will provide all the tools necessary
     to work as a professional wedding planner or start a wedding planning
     business. Tuition is $1,395.

     The assignments are geared towards starting a business in the
     industry. Therefore, most assignments are tools that will be utilized
     in business such as contracts, business packages, profiling templates
     for new clients and tools for designing a signature wedding such as
     fabric boards, design displays and presentation tools. Textbooks
     include templates and many examples to utilize in order to develop
     contracts and service packages. The program also provides over 50
     documents in the on-line library that can downloaded as templates for
     bridal clients.

     This topics covered include budgeting, project management, vendors
     and contracts, wedding etiquette, wedding customs and traditions from
     over 15 different cultures worldwide, wedding gown styles & veils
     including the seasons top designers and videos of the most recent
     truck (fashion) shows, wedding event planning, writing your business
     plan, signature wedding design, invitations, public relations,
     wedding music selections, sales & marketing, pre and post wedding
     parties, how to expand your business, relationship education as well
     as production and operations management.

Vincennes University Jasper Campus will launch “The Vincennes University
Culinary Academy” this summer in Ferdinand, Indiana. This noncredit 68-hour training program is designed for students interested in securing basic kitchen skills which will prepare them for a career in
the food service area. Class times are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:00- 6:00
PM, June 12 - August 16. The location will be at Vincennes University
Generations kitchen in the Ferdinand Senior Citizen Center, 313 W. 9th Street, Ferdinand, Indiana
Whether the student chooses to pursue a career in catering, restaurant, hotel, club, being a personal chef or to pursue an advanced culinary education, this program provides the student with skills needed to be a successful kitchen employee.
This training will also allow students to become ServSafe Food Safety certified. The program is open to the general public and students must possess a high school diploma or GED. No formal admission to VUJC is required.

This program is offered in cooperation with VU-Jasper Continuing Education,VU’s Culinary Arts program, Vincennes University’s Generations program and the Town of
Ferdinand. Jim McFaul, director of VUJC’s Continuing Education states, “This is a great
collaboration between VU entities-Generations and the Culinary Arts program, and the Town of Ferdinand and the Ferdinand Senior Citizens.
This is a one-of-a-kind program unique to southern Indiana. We are pleased
we can offer it a certified kitchen locally.” The VU Generations program provides its Meals on Wheels from the Ferdinand kitchen located in the Ferdinand Senior Citizens building on West 9th Street. The building is owned by the Town of Ferdinand.

During the 10-week program skills taught will include food safety and
sanitation, knife skills, food purchasing, receiving, storing, food preparation, cooking, holding, reheating, food presentation and serving and food utilization. The learning environment will consist of practicing techniques in the kitchen, preparing meals, taking tours of local establishments, marketing, and food management. Non-paid internships
will also be explored. Evaluation will consist of the student’s ability to follow instructions, attendance, attitude with co-workers, faculty and the public and the final project. Upon successful completion of a program students will receive a Vincennes University Certificate of Completion.

Instructors are Carol Keusch, associate professor, Vincennes University Culinary Arts degree program and Amy Bowler, adjunct faculty, Vincennes University Culinary Arts degree program.  Tuition is $625 and includes materials, knife set, uniform and ServSafe
testing.
