DIRECTOR

L. Kenneth Chew, Jr., Psy.D., HSPP

 Director, ISU Student Counseling Center

Dr. Chew is currently the Interim Director of the ISU Student Counseling Center.  His primary responsibilities include management of Student Health Promotions, outreach programs, campus and community liaisons, drug and alcohol programs, and the Performance Excellence Program.  Dr. Chew received his doctorate from the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology in 2001 and completed his undergraduate work at Jamestown College, where he majored in Psychology with a minor in Fine Art.  Dr. Chew’s training and professional experiences include:  the Hampton Roads VA Hospital, where he worked with drug and alcohol patients; the College of William & Mary Student Counseling Center, where he did a concentration in the counseling of college students with a specific focus in the counseling of athletes; New Mexico State University Student Counseling Center for internship; and the Washington D.C. Public Schools, where he did clinical and psycho-educational assessments on children, adolescents, and young adults for over two years.  His professional interests include the counseling of athletes, performance enhancement, drug and alcohol issues, multicultural counseling, facilitation of professional and personal development training, and outreach programming.

He also has a major “Superman” complex, even though his coworkers regularly act as Kryptonite.  

 
ASSOCIATE  DIRECTOR
 

Carrie Hixson Profitt, Ph.D., HSPP

Associate Director

Dr. Profitt is the Associate Director for clinical training of the ISU Student Counseling Center.  She has masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Morehead State University and a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Indiana State University.  She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the APA accredited program at Ball State's Student Counseling Center.  During her internship she completed a specialization in eating disorders and a minor rotation in Feminist Therapy.   After finishing her internship she went on to work at an eating disorders clinic in Indianapolis.  Dr. Profitt’s training and professional experience include: working in a family practice, Hamilton Center community mental health, St. Mary of the Woods College, Ball States Student Counseling Center and the Charis Center for Eating Disorders.  : In each of these sites she managed a concentration in the area of eating disorders.  She is also in her sixth year of membership in the Eating Disorder Task Force of Indiana.  Her professional interests include womens issues, body image and self-esteem, and eating disorders.  Dr. Profit enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and close friends.  She also enjoys reading, traveling, and outdoor activities. 

 

 
STAFF PSYCHOLOGISTS/THERAPISTS

Suellyn Mahan, Ph.D., HSPP

Senior Staff Psychologist-currently on leave serving in Iraq.

Dr Mahan is currently the senior staff psychologist of the ISU Student Counseling Center. She is also a military psychologist.   Her primary responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of college students with a variety of issues, individual counseling, outreach planning, and liaison for several programs on campus.   Dr Mahan earned her master’s degree in school psychology and doctorate in psychology from ISU, with a specialty in school psychology and subspecialty in child clinical psychology.  Her professional interests include assessment and treatment of children and adolescents, internalizing and externalizing disorders, military issues, and substance abuse issues. Dr Mahan has worked as a private practice psychologist, community mental health psychologist, staff psychologist for foster parents, and adjunct faculty at ISU.  She also has over 20 years in the military and spent a year in Iraq as a military psychologist in 2003-2004.  Dr Mahan enjoys golfing, music, and traveling.

Jacob Jones, M.S.

Jacob Jones is a student in the counseling psychology doctorate program at Indiana State University.  He holds a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Bluefield College and a masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Radford University. He is a member of APA Division 17 and of APAGS. His professional interests include sports psychology and health psychology.
