SERVICE: Provides comprehensive, direct service agency that serves the poor, homeless, elderly, neglected, and the needy. Develops and administers programs in cooperation with parishes and any established group that desires to share in the church's work of social ministries. Provides food through Catholic Charities Food Bank to 501(c)(c) not-for-profit agencies. Service offices are: Anthony Square Congregate Living, Bethany House, Christmas Store, Household Exchange, Ryves Hall Youth Center and Simeon House Congregate Living.
ANTHONY SQUARE CONGREGATE LIVING (440 College Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47803, 232-6533, Monday-Friday 9-3:00): Provides a congregate living program for individuals aged 55 and older. Also offers 3 meals/day, chapels, a medical clinic, and day activities for the elderly including aging members of the community. Rent is $500/month (includes housing, laundry, meals, utilities and activities); Section 8 is accepted.
BETHANY HOUSE (1402 Locust Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807, 232-4978, 24 hours/day): Provides an emergency shelter for families, women and children, traveling families who have experienced car trouble, refugees, migrant families, fire victims, pregnant teenage girls, and women. Also provides meals from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 365 days/year.) Each weekday morning, the Bethany House Free Clothes Closet provides free clothing to clients in need.
CHRISTMAS STORE (829 N. 14th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804, 234-7242, by appointment only). Provides Christmas gifts for families during the first two weeks of December. Eligible shoppers are families that are contacted and referred by a member of one of the seventy participating churches, schools, and community agencies.
HOUSEHOLD EXCHANGE (1402 Locust Street, Terre Haute, IN, 47807, 234-7242, hours vary): Distributes used and surplus household items such as appliances, blankets, curtains, desks, dishes, drapes, flatware, furniture, glasses, lamps, pillows, radios, sheets, televisions, toys, etc., free of charge to individuals in need.
RYVES HALL YOUTH CENTER (1356 Locust Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807, 235-1265, Hours vary by program, Telephone access M-F, 8-4): Offers varous activities for at-risk and homeless preschool children, latch-key children, parents and youth. Preschool program provides breakfast, lunch, and various activities to homeless and at-risk children Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Parent Resource Center provides activities that teach parents to conduct arts and crafts projects with their children; support groups with guest speaker from local agencies; classes for computers, cooking, and exercise; crisis intervention; dances; educational support groups for rape, sexual abuse, and substance abuse; evening meals; food service employment training; karaoke; movies; roller skating; and tutoring Monday-Friday 2:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
SIMEON HOUSE CONGREGATE LIVING (1801 Poplar Street, Terre
