"Evolutionary genomics of an avian model organism"

Dr. Balakrishnan is using comparative genomic approaches to study the evolution of the avian genome. This includes detailed, targetted studies of genes and gene families of interest (e.g., the MHC), and also genome-wide comparisons of rates and patterns of sequence evolution and gene duplication.
