The Business Administration Program offers you a broad exposure to a variety of business disciplines. The program consists of a core of business courses plus additional courses in three concentrations selected from the following areas:

This blending of course work offers you a solid foundation in business principles plus the opportunity to customize the program to meet your specific interests. In addition to your course work in the business major, you will complete the University's General Education Program and selected electives to help you in your professional development.

Accounting Minor (optional):   It is possible to earn a minor in accounting within this degree by completing 6-12 hours (depending on choice of major emphasis) of approved accounting courses. For details, see Accounting Minor.

The business administration bachelor degree-completion program typically includes 62 - 70 credit hours. The specific courses and credit required may vary, depending on course work transferred.

You must complete concentrations in three areas selected from the list (below). Courses in the Accounting Concentration may be applied toward completion of the Accounting Minor. Consult with your advisor to plan your program of study and ensure course prerequisites are satisfied.

GENERAL EDUCATION
BEIT 336 Business Report Writing (3 hrs)
  Courses to satisfy the University's General Education requirements in Basic and Liberal Studies.
  Fulfillment of the University's requirement for graduation with a bachelor degree.
  Business Administration majors are required to take eight additional hours of 300-400 level courses beyond the required classes for the major to fulfill graduation requirements.
  At least 50 percent of the business credit hours required for any business degree should be taken at Indiana State University.

With a major in business administration, you have the flexibility to design areas of concentration to meet your particular career goals. In addition, the Business Administration Program is excellent preparation for graduate studies, including a master of business administration.

Admission / Credit Transfer


The Business Administration Program is open to eligible in-state (Indiana) and out-of-state applicants. The program is designed for transfer students. Specific freshman and sophomore courses (listed below) must have been completed.



ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS / CREDIT TRANSFER
Business Administration

  Admission -- Minimum Requirements

To be admitted to the distance learning program in business administration, you must be admitted to the University as a degree-seeking student and satisfy the following:

  1. An associate of science (A.S.) in business administration from Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, or another regionally accredited college or university, with a grade point average of 2.25 or higher;

    Or a minimum of 60 credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university with a grade point average of 2.25 or higher.


  2. Courses in:  English (freshman composition); Communications (speaking); Mathematics (intermediate algebra, college algebra, or calculus); a legal environment of business course


  3. Eighteen (18) credit hours of specified prebusiness cornerstone and foundation courses with a grade point average of 2.25 or higher, including:
      -  Information Technology Literacy (3 hours)
      -  Principles of Macroeconomics (3 hours)
      -  Principles of Microeconomics (3 hours)
      -  Principles of Accounting I (3 hours)
      -  Principles of Accounting II (3 hours)
      -  Business Statistics I (3 hours)

  General Guidelines for Credit Transfer

The following are general guidelines. Upon admission, academic advisors review transcripts to determine which credit transfers and which courses will be included in your program of study.

  • Credit earned from regionally accredited colleges or universities is transferable.
  • Technical skills courses in an A.A.S. program may not transfer; however, any credit earned in general education, liberal arts, or liberal studies may be transferable.
  • Transfer credit is assigned only for courses in which you have earned a grade of C or higher.
  • The Business Administration Program cannot accept Ivy Tech credit earned prior to 1993.
  • Generally, an equivalent number of credit hours are given.
  • In some cases, credit may be transferable to the University, but may not be applied toward completion of the Business Administration Program.
  • Remedial, audited, or non-credit classes do not transfer.
  • College Living, orientation, and study skills classes do not transfer.
  • Up to 94 hours of total transfer credit will be accepted for transfer into a bachelor degree program; at least 30 credit hours must be completed through ISU to earn the bachelor degree.
