Providing quality baccalaureate nursing education is the goal of Indiana State University's College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services. To accomplish this goal and respond to the educational needs of practicing registered nurses, the nursing faculty developed the Baccalaureate Track for Registered Nurses.
The track offers registered nurses an alternative curriculum through which they can earn the baccalaureate degree. The program consists of 35 credit hours in the nursing major. In addition to the course work required in the nursing major, you must also complete the University's General Education Program.
An unique feature of the track is the opportunity to earn up to 10 hours of credit through professional portfolio evaluation. The portfolio evaluation option provides the experienced nurse the opportunity to demonstrate successful attainment of specific objectives and earn either full or partial credit for selected nursing courses in the Baccalaureate Track for Registered Nurses (Nursing 304, 318, 322, and 470).
The Baccalaureate Track for Registered Nurses is approved by the Indiana State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
Note: Due to the popularity of this program, applicants may be "wait-listed" pending an opening.
The Baccalaureate Track for Registered Nurses includes 62-67 credit hours. The specific courses and credit required vary, depending on course work transferred.

You have the option of completing the Nursing Program on the Indiana State University campus—or via distance learning.
Distance Learning Option:
Nursing students pay the same University fees as other distance students. Additional expenses related to the program of study include assessment and remediation materials, a nursing clinical faculty fee for designated courses, books, and other instructional materials.
There are many and varied employment opportunities for registered nurses who have a baccalaureate degree. In hospitals and other health care settings, baccalaureate nurses are practicing in ways that recognize their educational preparation and nursing competencies. Baccalaureate nurses have more complex nursing care responsibilities in providing direct care. They supervise other personnel who provide nursing care. They also collaborate with other health care professionals in developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive plans of health care for patients/ clients of all ages in a variety of settings.
As a graduate of Indiana State University's Baccalaureate Nursing Program, you will be prepared as a generalist and may assume beginning leadership roles. In addition, the baccalaureate degree is foundational for graduate study in nursing.
The Nursing Program is open to eligible in-state and out-of-state applicants. The program is designed for transfer students. For details on credit transfer and admission requirements, see chart (below).
