NEW OFFICE! DISTANCE SUPPORT SERVICES

As a result of the recent Lifelong Learning reorganization, a new Office of Distance Support Services has emerged! This office combines many of the services previously offered with several new services for ISU faculty and students.

In a nutshell, staff in the Office of Distance Support Services coordinate program development and marketing of distance programs, and serve as student advocates to facilitate the admission and registration process. A variety of testing services are also provided.

* Student support includes: assistance with admission, financial aid, registration, correspondence lesson submission, proctored exams, and accessing online courses. Visit (and link your distance students to) our Fall 2003 message to ISU distance learners at www.indstate.edu/distance/news/tips3.html

* Program/course development is available for: year-based and semester-based distance courses, degrees and professional development programs (undergraduate and graduate), and the University's DegreeLink program. Our office also provides institutional authorization for Indiana Partnership for Secondary Education (IPSE) grants.

* University Testing is a center for testing services and information for ISU faculty and students, including: assistance with SIRs (Student Instructional Report) and course evaluations; test correction and analysis; University surveys; national tests; and credit by examination. For a complete list of services and contact information, visit: www.indstate.edu/lifelong/testing

* Delivery support includes: videotapes for televised classes; proctoring exams for distance courses; and coordination of textbooks and course materials with the ISU Virtual Bookstore (MBS Direct).

* Marketing/communications support includes: development of on-line and print-based materials; targeted mailings; and booths and on-sight presentations for business, industry, and civic organizations throughout Indiana.

* Statewide support includes a team of four distance learning coordinators around the state to provide marketing and retention efforts for distance students.

Our goal for the upcoming year is to increase the awareness of student services for distance students. We invite any suggestions or comments that can help us do our job better.
