UPDATE: DISTANCE LEARNING IN INDIANA

According to the Indiana College Network, enrollments in distance courses offered by Indiana colleges and universities continue to climb.

Per an ICN media release (8 December 03):

  • 2002-03 distance enrollments reached nearly 70,000. This represents a 42% increase over 2001-02, and a 425% increase over the past five years.

  • 70 degree programs (from associate to doctorate) and 63 certificate programs are offered via distance learning by Indiana colleges and universities. All are listed in the ICN online catalog at www.icn.org

Included in the release is information on a recent study by the Education Commission of the States "Closing the College Participation Gap." This study concluded that:

  • By 2015 Indiana needs to increase adult participation incollege by 94% just to catch up to where the best states are today.

Indiana currently ranks 43rd for percentage of adults with a bachelor's degree, and also shows poorly for adults with an associate's degree.
