DISTANCE LEARNING UP 26% IN INDIANA

The Indiana College Network reports 148,307 college credit enrollments in distance learning courses offered by Indiana postsecondary institutions during the 2005-06 academic year. This is a 26% increase over 2004-2005 enrollments.

Estimated headcount for 2005-2006 totaled 35,000 students, of which 80% were undergraduate students.

Listed below are further details based on 2005 - 2006 Distance Education Statistics, reported by the Indiana College Network and collected by the IHETS Consortium. All comparisons refer to changes (increases and decreases) from the prior academic year (2004-2005).

DELIVERY

  • 93% of the enrollments were in online classes.
  • Enrollments in live video decreased 20%.
  • Enrollments in stored media increased 2%.
  • Internet enrollments increased 30% -- and were 18% higher than the previous year's "total" enrollments.

LEARNING MODES

  • Real-time interaction decreased 20%.
  • On-demand interaction increased 32%.

  • Fall 2006: 1,932 technology-delivered classes were listed.
  • Fall 2006: 218 degree and certificate programs were listed.

ISU DISTANCE LEARNING:  A TRAFFIC REPORT

Each month, the University's Distance Learning site generates an average of:

  • Over 4,000 unique visits
  • Over 35,000 pages viewed

The University currently offers more than 30 degrees and programs via distance learning. In addition, over 200 distance courses are offered each semester.
